Music of the Week Autumn Term 2023/24

‘Listening to music is fundamental to musical understanding. By learning to listen critically, pupils will not only expand their musical horizons but also gain a deeper understanding of how music is constructed and the impact it can have on the listener’.

Each week, in music, the children listen to high-quality pieces of recorded music. The aim is to give the children the opportunity to listen and respond to a broad range of music from different time periods, genres, and cultures from around the world.

The music selected each term is based around a theme. Previous themes have included ‘Female Composers and Performers throughout the 20th and 21st Century’, ‘Music from Around the World’, ‘Film Scores and Soundtracks’ and ‘Music Through the Ages: 1200 -1900.’

Our theme this term is ‘The Blues and Beyond: Musical Genres in the 20 and 21st Century’.

Please feel free to listen and discuss these pieces at home with your child/children.
